Is a broken wing mirror an NCT fail?
The NCT includes checks on a car's mirrors. A mirror that is missing, loose, badly cracked or not giving a clear view can cause a problem. The exact outcome depends on the tester's assessment and the extent of the damage, so treat the information below as general guidance.
Things testers may look at
- Is the mirror present and securely fixed?
- Is the glass intact and giving a usable view?
- Is the housing damaged enough to be unsafe?
What to do before the test
- Replace shattered glass, which is usually quick and cheap.
- Tighten or refit loose housings.
- If the housing is broken, replace the full unit.
